Part 1 and Part 2 of Alex Ben Block Interview
Part 2 Alex Ben Block Interview

For his new novel, “Adventures Of A Young Kung Fu Legend,” Block spent years interviewing members of Bruce Lee’s birth family, among many others, and doing in-depth research into life in China in the 1950s. It is fictional but is inspired by the legendary Kung Fu movie star’s based on his real life as a teenager in Hong Kong who faces a dangerous challenge.
It is the story of an 18-year-old used to being top dog in his school and world, who suddenly must use all he has learned - from his closely knit family, from school where he is respected by classmates, as a budding Asian movie star, as a gifted martial artist and as someone rapidly entering manhood - to survive challenges that range from problems at home, to demands in school (where he is also on the boxing team), to a new romance, to battling deadly intimidation and threats from thuggish gangsters who threaten his friends and his world, to protect those closest to him and his community.
Much of this fast-paced, engrossing novel draws on the real-life story of Bruce Lee as a teenager in Hong Kong. It‘s full of action and adventure, but also has spiritual, political and historical elements, including insights into how he took on menacing organized criminals to protect his friends and community.
Ultimately it becomes so dangerous a threat to him that at age 18 he has to escape to America, where he was born in San Francisco, but only lived a few months, and reclaim his U.S. citizenship.

Elias Bosch 5.0 stars out of 5: “FROM THE WRITER OF THE LEGEND OF BRUCE LEE COMES ANOTHER MUST READ NOVEL. Alex Ben Block the first to ever write an autobiography of the late great Bruce Lee with "The Legend of Bruce Lee" (1974) has done a brilliant job with this fictional character of Brad Chi who although not Bruce makes one wonder what could have been. …This is a must read and one that any Bruce Lee Collector/ Enthusiast has to have sitting alongside his copy of "The Legend"!!!
From Tony Castro, bestselling author of "Looking for Hemingway" and "The Book of Marilyn,” among many books. 5.0 out of 5 stars “Alex Ben Block has spent a lifetime writing about Hollywood, storytelling, and the larger-than-life characters who move through both worlds. In "The Adventures of a Young Kung Fu Legend," he turns that experience into a vivid coming-of-age novel set in 1950s Hong Kong, where tradition, street violence, and the discipline of martial arts collide….The story follows Brad Chi, a talented young fighter and performer whose growing reputation draws him into rivalries, family expectations, and the dangerous pull of Hong Kong’s gang-dominated streets. Told through the eyes of his younger brother, the novel blends martial arts action with the emotional texture of a young man discovering what strength, honor, and responsibility really mean. This is an amazing book that is hard to put down.Block, who earlier wrote the well-known biography "The Legend of Bruce Lee," clearly knows this world and the philosophy behind it. What he delivers here isn’t biography but a spirited fictional tale about the making of a legend—and the discipline and sacrifice required along the way.Readers who enjoy martial arts stories with historical flavor and heart will find plenty to like here. But it is not just for martial arts enthusiasts.”
From Barbara P. 5.0 out of 5 stars “It was hard to get a full night’s sleep because I didn't want to put this book down.Alex Ben Block takes us into the world of corrupt and violent 1950's Hong Kong. Young Brad's escapades are harrowing and heroic, mixed with laughter and romance. Though this joy ride, we learn so much of Chinese history, philosophy, family values and the martial arts. I can't wait for the next book!
From Jess Nadelman 5.0 out of 5 stars”” “This book has something for every reader, weather uninitiated in the world of martial arts or those who would would like to be. For someone like me who is not only uninitiated, but has a short patience for anything but page turners, this book fills the bill. First, the story is filled with drama.. . . You want to know what is going to happen to the characters in each chapter, on every page. It also deals with a culture alien to me and the impact not only on social relationships and actual physical threats, but families universally. And not just Chinese living in Hong Kong/Kowloon during a particular time in history. As to characters, they are vividly written, coming to life through Mr. Block’s narrative and writing style. I cannot wait for the sequel that has the main character developing a life and meeting the challenges of living in America, not only as an immigrant, but one who is focused on success as a master Kung Fu legend.
From a Bruce Lee collector in the United Kingdom 5.0 out of 5 stars “This book is inspired by the adventures of a young Bruce Lee. Alex interviewed Robert and Phoebe Lee many times over the years so what you read in the book is based on true events in Bruce’s life. Every Bruce Lee fan needs to own a copy. I heard there could be a sequel.”
From an Amazon customer 5.0 out of 5 stars “Excellent read ! .... I bought Alex Ben Block's Bruce Lee biography (the very first of its kind) back in 1974 and still own it to this day.... If you haven't listened to Alex's phone call conversation/interview with Bruce Lee in 1972 (available pn YouTube) you really must..... This brand new book takes you right back into the era atmosphere of the time the story represents.... A must buy.”
